Civic Influence

The Jewish prophetic tradition introduced a revolutionary understanding of political authority: rulers themselves are subject to moral judgment. Power does not establish what is right; rather, its legitimacy depends upon its relationship to justice, human dignity, and responsibility.
ELI draws inspiration from this heritage and the broader tradition of ethical monotheism while welcoming contributions from other religious and secular philosophies. Its purpose is not to impose a particular theology upon politics, but to identify ethical principles capable of guiding leadership across cultural, religious, and ideological boundaries.

From Reflection to Influence
Ethical reflection alone cannot transform political life. ELI therefore proposes to develop an international network of scholars, civic leaders, institutions, and concerned citizens capable of bringing ethical ideas into public debate.
Through research, publications, international conferences, educational programs, and civic engagement, ELI seeks to make ethical responsibility a visible and influential standard by which political leadership is evaluated.
A FOUNDING PRINCIPLE
The true measure of political leadership is not simply the power it acquires, but the responsibility it assumes for those living today and for generations yet to come.
